I retired from WA State government in 2014 and from the military in 1998. I moved to So. Whidbey in 2015 after staying with friends, on and off, since the 80’s. The island requires commissioners that understand the importance of the growth management act (GMA), the county and city comprehensive planning process, and a vision of progress for Island County.
Melanie is committed to Increasing internet capability, attracting and allowing people to work from home, maintaining a rural environment, providing housing, increasing employment opportunities, and working with State and federal governments to provide rural community grant funding. She understands the complexities of governing a county with three commissioners.
As a director with Island County for the past ten years, Melanie has the experience, knowledge, ability and leadership to step into the District #1 Commissioner position and hit the ground running. Most important, Melanie loves Island County and will work tirelessly to provide citizens the expertise required for continuity of government in our county.
